City One — 21st century urban mobility

What will urban mobility be like by the middle of this century? Many people say that a car, or rather an electric car, will go into the category of services instead of private ownership. To some extent, this is likely to be the case. Already today, it is clear from the pace of development of car sharing and kicksharing services that vehicles can be safely used, while not owning them. And this process will probably only gain momentum. But here another question arises. There is no point in replacing private cars with shared cars, if at the same time they themselves do not change, remaining in the same classes — B, C, crossovers, and so on.

Personally, in my opinion, a rental vehicle should be as simple, functional, as compact as possible, and cheap to manufacture and maintain. And this opinion is shared not only by me, but also by the team of the Bavarian startup Adaptive City Mobility (ACM).

About a year ago, in the article «

Then it is this element, when the battery pack slides out to the side to open access to the slots in which the batteries are located, caused many complaints. The crux of the matter was that although the principle of quick battery replacement in an electric car is great, NIO showed the effectiveness of this technology perfectly, but the option used in CITY eTAXI was not perfect, especially for winter and slushy weather. Therefore, within a year, Adaptive City Mobility (ACM) engineers created a new electric car, in which the battery pack was also changed. The new electric car was named City One.

CEO Paul Leibold and his team have spent eight years developing a small electric vehicle that has something that the competition lacks. It is not only lightweight and safe, but also versatile and very inexpensive. By the way, Leibold himself is well known in automotive circles and worked in

The City One electric car is specially designed to be universally suitable for taxis, car sharing, and delivery services. Its weight is only

Unlike the CITY eTAXI model in City One, the slots for 4 removable batteries are placed in a niche under the luggage compartment, through which they can be accessed. The battery pack contains in its slots

And I must say that the «correction of errors», recalling the model CITY eTAXI, was done wonderfully well. The new battery slot placement option is more convenient, safer, and replacing a dead battery will be easier and faster. The battery system itself is as versatile as an electric vehicle. The battery packs can be charged even at home, they can be exchanged for charged ones at the charging-exchange station, the electric car can be simply charged, even from a regular outlet, even on a fast charger. Versatility and simplicity is the City One principle.

We can say that Adaptive City Mobility (ACM) has created the ideal city electric vehicle for car sharing, taxi, commercial delivery. And this is not just an opinion, it is confirmed by the fact that the company has received about

the auto giant has already prepared a feasibility study, and the preproduction process has begun. Adaptive City Mobility (ACM) and Magna plan to release a pre-production series for testing and certification in 2023, with mass production starting around the first half of 2024. So, in addition to hundreds of thousands and millions of new #tesla, VW and #renault, these compact electric cars from ACM and Magna will appear on the streets of European cities.
