There is of course a standard answer to the question posed in the title. This answer is the result of numerous safety tests, with crash tests at different overlap collision angles and at different speeds. But practice is sometimes more surprising than any crash test.
In the USA, in the state of Indiana, an accident occurred on the side of a federal highway. The driver of the Tesla Model S pulled over to the side of the road to talk on the phone, and after a while a truck flies into him from behind, at a speed of about 90 km / h, with the driver asleep at the wheel.
According to the police, and this will seem strange to many, unfortunately, the culprit of the accident himself, the truck driver, was seriously injured and was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital.
What would happen to many other cars is not difficult to imagine, especially if they are gasoline. The probability of explosion or fire would be over 50%.
Everything worked out here. The impact of the truck crumpled the entire luggage volume, but, by and large, the destruction did not reach the passenger compartment. The electric car driver was able to calmly open his door and get out.
Want a reason to buy an electric car, and in particular a Tesla, that has nothing to do with performance, comfort, technology, or the environment? How about survival?
