They want to build the world’s first «industrial park» or, in other words, an orbital plant in Earth’s orbit. And here, of course, someone will say that this is not real, and why. In fact, all previous space projects gradually led, including, and precisely to this. You know very well that at the Soviet Mir station and at the current ISS orbital station, numerous experiments were carried out to produce various materials, from artificial meat to metal alloys. In fact, near-earth space is an ideal place to create magnesium alloys for medical implants, fiber optic cables with a very high degree of structural purity.

For people in orbit, organs necessary for transplantation can be produced, since microgravity conditions can be used to 3D print the heart and other organs using pure biogel. Also, the space factory can produce artificial meat and other products for astronauts. That is, the use of orbital stations for production purposes is quite understandable and demanded technology today. It remains only to bring it to the required level, which is what Varda Space Industries wants to do. And naturally, orbital production will be environmentally friendly.

Yes, so in some more or less distant future they will write on some goods. But for that to happen, you first need to build an orbital plant. Why has the process of implementing this idea begun now? The company itself gives an answer to this question.

Initially, the company’s plan is rather modest. Consider this as a test case. They are going to create a system of a launch spacecraft, a commercially available spacecraft platform, a production module and a capsule with a heat shield for descent to Earth of the finished product. The first commercial item to be returned will weigh only 100 kg.

So, a group of «Ilonov’s nest chicks» will build a space plant. At first, these will be small production units. In the future, it will be a giant orbital industrial station, which will consist of many production modules. There is no need to even guess that this will be realized precisely with the help of the #starship — #super heavy system, because it is this system that will be able to launch more than 100-ton modules into orbit, of which the space plant will consist.

The space of the future is another full-fledged dimension of human life and activity. There will be science, tourism, industry, and of course there will be defense systems. But there are always those who are ahead, and those who, being afraid of this, will say that it is pointless.
