A new age has come, and in 2010 Volvo Cars was bought by the Chinese concern Zhejiang Geely Holding. And with that, it’s time for an electric transformation for Volvo. Now, in line with the brand’s strategy, the company is heading towards electric mobility, and every new Volvo car will be fully electric by 2030.
This, in turn, entails a paradigm shift in design, which must meet the electrical platform, and the cloud-digital transport ecosystem of the future. And it was precisely the concept of this design transformation, together with the new concept, that was presented at the presentation of the Volvo Concept Recharge. Volvo says it is a manifesto for their clean electric future, as well as a new design language for the company.
The Volvo Concept Recharge represents the essence of the upcoming changes in the cars of the Scandinavian company. The company has completely rethought the technological saturation of the car and the passenger space. Naturally, the car, like all modern electric vehicles, will be based on a modular electric platform. It will be based on a battery pack located under the car interior. This is almost the standard layout today. There isn’t much to dwell on here.
In the exterior, a new «face» of the car will stand out, where the traditional radiator grille in the past has been replaced by a «shield».
There will also be headlights of an innovative design. There will be some sort of double # headlights here. During the day, in their classic place, the running lights will be and shine, and at night, like eyelids, the running lights will open and the block of the main headlights will «go out» forward. This is, as they say, one example of the new digital design of #volvo cars Thor’s Hammer headlights.
If you look above, there will be a #lidar sensor unit created by a technology company from the top in the center, on the border of the windshield and the panoramic roof.
Here, as they say at Volvo, the whole mantra is based on “
The new electric Volvo will have virtually no physical buttons other than paddle shifters and no analog displays. In place of the dashboard familiar in the past, there will be a digital display, and in the center there will be a large 15-inch touchpad panel, through which it will be possible to control the car’s climate system, of course, there will also be # navigation, and # a multimedia system.
And of course, due to the fact that this is # an electric car, and the battery is under the floor of the cabin, the car will have a larger wheelbase, which in turn will allow for a more spacious cabin. And this spaciousness is well felt in the concept.
What is also interesting, and this is precisely in the family spirit of Volvo, is the structural features of the seats for the rear passengers. Here, the creators of future Volvo electric vehicles have well noticed and implemented a system that does not require special child seats for young passengers. It’s just that the rear seats receive a transformation function for the growth of the child. A very handy feature that I suppose other automakers will take over as well. After all, it is easier and more convenient to make a transforming chair than to carry an additional one with you.
The return of swing doors to conventional cars is also of interest. Once upon a time, in the 30s and 40s of the last century, this was usual, then this scheme remained only with a part of luxury # cars. And now this # concept is back again.
