The cosmos of the Chinese car industry

The Chinese auto industry — this phrase even 15-20 years ago caused just an ironic grin, well, they say, what they can do interesting and worthy in this area. And, it would seem, time has passed absolutely nothing. But how radically things have changed over the years. But let’s not be prejudiced and haughty about China. Just remember what China has given the world — paper, compass, gunpowder, typography, drum, oars, bell, dagger-ax, varnish, double boiler, fork, and much more. So the current level of China’s industrial development is not a miracle at all, but a natural process that was previously interrupted by numerous wars and crises.

Today, and this is directly declared by all automobile companies in China, the innovative development of the industry, developing at an unimaginable pace, is due to the leading and guiding role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which adopted a national strategy to decarbonize the transport and energy industries. And of course, if you do something, then do it not just at the level of the best world standards, but do it better. And China has learned to do better.

«Green Start Point» pays a lot of attention to the Chinese car industry, of course, in the field of electric vehicles. Over the past 10 years, many new car brands have appeared in the Middle Kingdom, which create exactly and only electric vehicles. The old state-owned auto companies are also gradually transforming into electric sub-brands. Of course, all this, to a large extent, began under the influence of the Tesla company Elon Musk. And even some of the current «captains» of China’s electromobility have once worked for Tesla. It is not surprising that many people rightly call Tesla a «forge of personnel». And in China, they began to make electric vehicles at the level, and even superior in their consumer characteristics, electric cars from Tesla and other American and European companies. Moreover, everything here goes in one «package» — battery technology, autonomous systems, electric motors, and of course the technology of the production itself. Below are some examples. Some of this has already been in our materials, something will be new.

Let’s start with what we talked about just the other day. This is a very budget money (in the Chinese market), and at the same time a very cool Changan E-Star electric car. It is small, A-class, and costs almost the same as the new Renault Logan, if not even cheaper. But just look at its view from the outside and from the inside. And it would never occur to you that this is a budget car, it is so cool, neat and technologically made.

But this is only the initial level.

One of the oldest Chinese car manufacturers, Dongfeng Motor has created a subsidiary company Lantu Automotive Technology, which is focused specifically on electrified vehicles that are already available in the car market under the Voyah brand. At the same time, the parent company itself also produces electric vehicles.

The brand’s flagship today is the #voyah Free electric SUV.

Almost all modern Chinese automobile factories have been created and transformed using the Industry 4.0 technology. That is, a significant part of production is robotized, and where there is human labor, it is maximally facilitated by the appropriate equipment and tools, and is safe. That is, here, the wheel bolts are not hammered with a sledgehammer. Once there was such a bike about some manufacturers … here.

The #dongfeng E70 is a mid-range sedan, I would say. It is similar in size to the Renault Fluence. The electric car has several configuration options for battery power — from 43.2 to 61.13 kWh. Accordingly, the range is from 330 to 500 km. Price — from 1.5 to 1.8 million rubles. And for all its outward simplicity, a look inside shows that you have in front of you a modern electric car with quite a rich set of tools, judging by the configurator.

Here, of course, it is difficult to talk about the «cosmic» appearance from the outside and from the inside, but even such a car commands respect.

The famous Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors in Russia has created its premium brand WEY, within which it creates hybrids and electric vehicles.

According to the company itself, they adhere to the concept of «creating a cleaner planet for humanity.» The WEY brand creates new energy products that include both pure electric as well as hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. A completely understandable and modern set of technologies.

Now let’s take a look at the VV7 GT PHEV plug-in hybrid cross-coupe based on its own Pi4 platform. Outside, it is almost an ordinary cross-coupe, but inside … I would say that owners of a similar class of cars from BMW or Mercedes-Benz will envy this. And one more question, who will catch up with whom here. At the same time, the maximum configuration in rubles will cost 2.7 million rubles.

The fuel consumption here is only 1.6 l / 100 km! The range of purely electric travel is 70 km. Not a lot, but for an average city run this is quite normal. Well, when necessary, the hybrid scheme comes into play. The company has now developed its own purely electric platform, and the production of all-electric models of the WEY brand will begin in the near future.

ORA is another brand from #great wall Motors. Within the framework of this brand, exclusively urban-class electric vehicles are created, in particular the ORA Euler electric car. As the company itself positions it, this is a women’s car. And, despite its small size, this is a real electric car, which at the same time can be considered today one of the most energy efficient in the world. It consumes approximately 10 kW per 100 km. The mileage range, depending on the equipment, is from 301 to 405 km.

The car also has a large interactive display, multifunction steering wheel, and other options already familiar to an electric car. Security is fine here too. The car even has an airbag between the front seats. It was only recently invented and introduced to #vw as part of the ID.3 package, and the Chinese immediately adopted this option at home.

As you can imagine, this is only a small fraction of what can be said and presented new in the Chinese car industry. We have talked about other brands such as #nio, Li Auto, #evergrande (Hengchi), #xpeng Motors many times.

All of their models are made to the highest level of quality, which makes movement safer and the air cleaner. When such a variety of electric vehicles will be difficult for Russia to say. The Russian government has just begun to think that it would be necessary to start developing electric vehicle production in the country. But this is a topic for the next article.

But while in our power circles they only think, looking at how the Russians privately increase their fleet of electric vehicles at a rate of more than 50% per year, the Chinese auto industry simply flies into space according to its technologies, according to the level of vehicle equipment, and, of course, according to the richness of design.

Will the Russian auto industry be able to catch up with the Chinese? This is probably no longer a topical issue, especially considering that there are practically no purely national manufacturers of passenger cars left in Russia. Let me remind you that the largest Russian automaker # Avtovaz is a part of the # Renault – Nissan – Mitsubishi Alliance. «Volga» from GAZ, as such, no longer exists, «UAZ» is a separate «song», since their products, in fact, are dual-use.

the SUV is equipped with an 88 kW * h battery, has a total power of 510 kW electric motors, and a range of about 500 km on a single charge. But these indicators are no longer unusual today. But look at the interior equipment, the saturation of various assistants and security systems, up to the fact that a picture of the street created by the intelligent NVS active night vision system can be displayed on the driver’s display.
