Everyone has their own preferences in automotive technology. Someone prefers «Germans», someone «Japanese», but I prefer the French car industry, and specifically Renault. Probably, it started with a long-term “rooting” for Renault in Formula 1 races, and then in Formula E. And who would dare to throw a stone “into the garden” of a company whose engines have been competing with Mercedes and Ferrari for many years. Renault both on the racetrack and in production cars have proven their reliability and efficiency at the same time. I expected the same from Renault in the electric vehicle direction.
The company’s first electromobile hit is #renault ZOE. A beautiful machine, and judging by the volume of sales, Europeans like it. This #electric vehicle, plus everything else, is also one of the most energy efficient. We have already given an example of one test drive, which showed an energy consumption of 7.5 kW per 100 km of run. Of course, it was during the warm season, and in city driving mode. But the ZOE has one drawback — it is, in fact, an A-class machine. And I wanted a more spacious electric car from Renault. And here it is — the new Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric.
mégane e-tech electric was first shown at the beginning of the year at the #renaulution online presentation. Now, at #iaa mobility, an electric car was presented to the public, which will be on the conveyor in the near future.
The Mégane E-TECH Electric is the company’s first electric vehicle on the new Renault CMF EV platform. There are many innovations in the electric car. First, there is a new three-phase electric motor. Together with the drivetrain, it weighs just 145 kg, which is 10% less than the ZOE. At the same time, it has the best characteristics that allow the new Megan to accelerate to 100 km / h in 7.4 seconds. This electric motor is a joint development of the # renault-nissan-mitsubishi Alliance, so it can be expected to appear on the electric cars of the Japanese members of the Alliance. The maximum speed is 160 km / h.
The electric #megan will be offered with two engine options — 96 or 160 kW and 205 or 300 Nm of torque, respectively.
The second innovation is the ultra-thin battery pack. Its height is only 110 mm. # the battery is assembled from elements produced by #lg Energy Solution, with a specific energy capacity of 600 Wh / l. This figure is again 20% better than the ZOE.
The batteries will also have two options — 40 kW * h, which will provide a range of up to 300 kilometers, and # a 60 kW * h battery, a range of 470 kilometers is declared here. They are also quite decent and good indicators.
It is important that the new Megan will have an integrated thermoregulation system. The engine and battery will have liquid cooling circuits. And plus to this, a thermal conduction system has been created, which removes excess heat to heat the passenger compartment. And in addition, a heat pump will be installed in the car. That is, everything is thought out. The battery will not overheat or freeze, and in winter, the heat from the power elements of the electric vehicle will additionally heat the interior. Great.
The length of the car is 4.21 meters, and the wheelbase is 2.68 meters. Trunk volume 440 liters. I will not say that this is a lot. But for a hatchback it’s quite normal.
So, Renovans offered a good electric car, which will be a strong competitor for the «classmates». But I would also like to see an electric sedan and a cross-coupe soon.
